Wall Bike Tour
For 28 years the Berlin Wall separated East and West Berlin. Now you can join this bicycle tour and follow the course of the former death strip. It starts at the place where the Berlin Wall came down in November 1989 and leads you to Berlin´s most famous border crossing Checkpoint Charlie. On your way you will find out how the wall was protected, what happened when people tried to overcome it and for which reasons it was built in the first place. You will pass landmarks like Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag building and find out what the “Palace of Tears” was.

The tour starts at Bornholmer Strasse where the first border crossing opened on 9th of November 1989. From there it follows the course of the Berlin Wall, passes a popular park where a fleamarket is held on weekends and leads to the Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse. Here you will find a small part of the former death strip that has been reconstructed, the site of the most spectacular tunnel flight and a memorial to those who died at the Wall. The tour continues in the direction of the Government Quarter with Reichstag building and to the Brandenburg Gate that used to be a symbol of the division of Germany and nowadays has become a symbol of Reunification. You will see the Holocaust Memorial and Potsdamer Platz, a former watchtower and remains of the Wall and the famous Checkpoint Charlie. From there you will go back through the bustling streets of the city center to eventually return to Bornholmer Strasse.
