With the beginning of the Christmas season numerous Christmas markets in Berlin are opening – and each of them is different. Here is an overview.
The most important Christmas markets
Gendarmenmarkt: crafts in white tents
Perhaps the most famous Christmas market in Berlin takes place year after year on the Gendarmenmarkt between the beautiful buildings of the concert hall and the German and French Dome. And year after year, it attracts around 800,000 visitors, who can watch and buy craft products such as Christmas pyramids, crib figures or carved mammoth bones (!) in with tents. Also you may watch on of the shows on the big stage or taste hot donuts and punch. The large crowd makes it possible that the entry is linked to a compulsory donation of € 1.
Romp and carousels of superlatives
The exact opposite atmosphere can be found on the Christmas markets at and around Alexanderplatz. Next to the big shopping center Alexa there is a market railing including ferris wheel, carousel and other fairground attractions. Christmas silence cannot be expected here. If you want to relax after the carousel rides while eating and drinking, visit the “Winter Gaudi village” in a rustic wooden hut ambience.
Christmas markets in all parts of the city
The market on Potsdamer Platz with the big snow slide, the Christmas market at the Memorial Church and the many district markets, such as in Spandau, become magical attractions during the Advent season.
