BERLIN COLD WAR TOUR

City tour by bus through the former East Berlin with a visit to the Wall Memorial.

Tour information

On this city tour through former East Berlin, we will take you to places that are reminiscent of the GDR era. This Cold War tour spans a broad spectrum from the German past before the fall of the wall and the demise of the GDR to today's scene culture that has developed from it: from the Trabi museum to the hostel, furnished in GDR style.

Tour description

The historic center of Berlin was also the center of East Berlin, in particular the "socialist capital city center" around Alexanderplatz and the Stalin Avenue. On this special themed tour, we will also show you numerous locations of former political institutions, typical buildings, streets and squares from the GDR era, as well as the remains of the Berlin Wall.

See among others:

Karl-Marx-Allee (formerly Stalin Avenue) - once a proud socialist boulevard and "national reconstruction work of the GDR" with "workers' palaces", but also the starting point of the uprising of June 17, 1953
Real-Socialist facade art, such as the former Café Moscow with Sputnik satellite
Trabi Museum, Trabi World and Ostel Hostel
Checkpoint Charlie - the most famous of all border crossings
"Palace of Tears" - border crossing at Friedrichstrasse station
Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse with remains of the Wall and death strip
East Side Gallery – the longest surviving section of the wall with the socialist brotherly kiss between Brezhnev and Honecker

During this tour, you can get off and visit the Berlin Wall Memorial and, if open, take a look at the death strip from a viewing platform. If you would like to find out more about the GDR era afterwards, the tour can also end at the GDR Museum or at the Stasi Museum in the former Stasi headquarters, if you like to visit one of those places afterwards independently.
